THE RAPIDSCANNER ENHANCES SITE SURVEYS
Heritage
Oxborough, Norfolk
PROJECT BACKGROUND & REQUIREMENT:
A 6 million improvement project was underway at the site, with works including repairing the roof, windows, chimneys, and medieval gatehouse.
As part of the enhancements, a fully compliant ramp was required from the south entrance, along with another from the chapel entrance, to improve wheelchair access for visitors with disabilities.
Our modular system was the ideal solution, as it could be installed quickly & typically within 24 hours; even in adverse weather conditions.
In comparison, a concrete or timber ramp were deemed unsuitable. A concrete ramp needs several days to cure and is vulnerable to delays in bad weather, while a timber ramp requires custom fabrication and can take up to a week to fit, making both options unable to meet the project's tight deadline.
DESIGN PHASE:
We conducted a RapidScan of the area, capturing all visible features, including the buildings and variations in ground levels. Our design team then overlaid 3D visuals of the ramps onto the RapidScan models, designing around any obstacles.
The 3D scanning process enhances the clarity of our drawings by placing the ramps within a virtual representation of the real-world environment — in this case, a historic setting with grass and dry terrain.
Our objective is to carry out site surveys quickly and efficiently. This technology plays a key role in helping us achieve that and more.
END RESULT:
Both ramps were fitted within a few days, meeting the project deadline without any delays. Additionally, they were ready for use as soon as the installations were completed.

RAMPS TO HISTORIC BUILDINGS:
We consciously take great care when dealing with historic buildings, offering a solution that doesn’t need to be bolted to walls.
Throughout the process, we’re always willing to consult with the appropriate conservation and planning authorities.
