Modular metal ramps are becoming more popular. They are reusable, quick, and easy to install and overcome many of the obstacles faced by traditional one-use concrete ramps.

To give you a clearer idea of the differences between metal modular ramps and concrete ramps, we've listed the advantages and disadvantages for both below.

METAL MODULAR RAMPS

Advantages

  • Cost effective - especially on larger ramps.
  • Fast installation, typically within 24 hours, minimising disruption caused.
  • Can be used instantly after installation.
  • 3-year warranty for peace of mind.
  • Fully galvanised for the longevity of use and corrosion-resistant.
  • Suitable for all types of buildings, including temporary, permanent and portable buildings.
  • Our ramp recycling initiative helps with cost savings.
  • Easily removed, typically within 24 hours.
  • Suitable as a short or long term solution.
  • Fully adjustable, can be adapted, modified and changed.
  • Choice of surface available, including steel platform, GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic), rubber crumb options.
  • Fully compliant with Part M and K of the Building Regulations
  • The surface is slip-resistant and highly durable with built-in drainage to let water pass through, reducing slips and water pooling.
  • Quick and easy to install in most weather condidtions, including light snow and rain.
  • Choice of colours available.
  • Integrated, warm-to-touch handrails.
  • Minimal groundworks.
  • Fire-resistant, withstanding temperatures typically encountered in building fires.

CONCRETE RAMPS

Advantages

  • Permanent.
  • Minimal maintenance.
  • Small short concrete ramp solutions can be cheap to install.
  • Can be made to blend in with existing paths and surrounding areas.

Disadvantages

  • Permanent.
  • Cannot be reused or recycled.
  • Cannot be easily removed.
  • Once installed, it cannot be modified to accommodate any future layout changes.
  • No built-in drainage system, which significantly increases the risk of water pooling and slips.
  • Expensive – particularly with higher height ramps.
  • Time-consuming to install, as it requires at least 24 hours to cure and is dependent on dry weather conditions for completion.

Testimonial

“Some of our clients don’t want to flag up the fact that they have disabilities with a big concrete ramp. Rapid Ramp is neat and discreet. When a concrete ramp is removed, it creates lots of work, and the subsurface has to be reinstated, which all costs money. With Rapid Ramp, removal is quick, and no reinstatement is needed.”
