We are delighted to report that the Rapid Ramp Platform continues to provide a professional, tested standard of slip resistance. As evidenced by a recent pendulum test, the mesh platform was successfully evaluated to provide adequate levels of grip in both wet and dry conditions.
We are delighted to report that the Rapid Ramp Platform continues to provide a professional, tested standard of slip resistance. As evidenced by a recent pendulum test, the mesh platform was successfully evaluated to provide adequate levels of grip in both wet and dry conditions.
Slip resistance is an essential quality that Part K of the Building Regulations requires any ramp or step unit to comply with. Especially in extreme weather conditions, including heavy rain and snow, the platform must withstand exposure to minimise the risk of users slipping. Also, any platform must continue to perform under varying levels of footfall safely.
Our platforms have a diamond-shaped perforated mesh surface to allow water to drain through rather than puddle, freeze, or become slippery. Plus, the product is manufactured from robust steel that can cope with greater weight limits without bending or deforming, making it ideal as a temporary or permanent walkway, ramp or step system.
The test evaluates the friction demonstrated by the mesh platform when a shoe makes contact with its surface.
The pendulum’s swinging arm sweeps over the mesh surface. At the end of the arm is a rubber slider, which strikes and passes along the mesh over a predetermined distance. If the arm is released without touching the mesh surface, it swings from horizontal to horizontal (no friction). Once it strikes the mesh, friction decelerates the arm, and therefore it swings less far.
The arm of the Pendulum also has a pointer. The pointer will show a Pendulum Test Value (PTV). There are three slip-potential categories:
PTV | Slip Potential |
<25 | High |
25-35 | Moderate |
>35 | Low |
The test was carried out under wet and dry conditions, with the examiner observing how the mesh platform responded.
All testing had been carried out in accordance with the UKSRG Guidelines and BS7976 part 2.

Our widest metal platform (1,500mm for public use) has endured a loading test, demonstrating how strong the system is.
Over 24 hours,1001 bricks were evenly laid over the surface. The platform and handrail successfully experienced no splitting or rippling throughout the test.
When installed correctly, the Rapid Ramp continues to have a safe loading capacity of 1,000kgs. Plus, it can safely support high volumes of public footfall, hospital beds, heavy-wheeled medical equipment, wheelchairs, prams, mobility scooters, bicycles, and shopping and luggage trolleys.
