What Is A Modular Ramp?

Published on Tuesday 21st March 2023

A modular ramp comprises of interchangeable prefabricated sections that are easily assembled, disassembled, and reconfigured to suit each project’s specific accessibility needs. Similarly to other ramps, they provide access to buildings and spaces for disabled and able-bodied users. In addition, they can often provide walkway access over obstacles such as pipes and cabling during maintenance works.

The Rapid Ramp System

Our Rapid Ramp System is a galvanised steel modular ramp, steel being chosen as it’s a fire-resistant material, compared to wooden ramps which will burn if exposed to fire.

All components including handrails and platforms are galvanised, a process where a protective coating of zinc is applied to prevent rusting and to kill moss.

All components (excluding the platforms and ramp legs) are powder-coated to create a durable finish that is tougher than conventional paint.

The ramp is available in an infinite number of lengths, widths, heights, and configurations, very much like a Meccano kit. This level of customisation continues make the product exceptionally versatile to suit different areas, buildings, and applications.

Platform Loading Test

We have successfully demonstrated how strong the Rapid Ramp System is through a recent loading test using our widest metal platform (1,500mm) for public use.

Over 24 hours,1001 bricks were evenly laid over the surface. The platform and handrail successfully experienced no splitting or rippling throughout the test.

When installed correctly, the Rapid Ramp System continues to have a safe loading capacity of 1,000kgs.

Success stories

Medical Imaging Unit, Birmingham University

Requirement: A sustainable ramp suitable for repeated use.

The Rapid Ramp System was ideal, being 100% recyclable and reusable, reducing waste and maximizing the lifetime value of the product. A one-use product, such as timber, does not offer this benefit.

During the games, the ramp provided wheelchair access to the medical imaging unit within the Athletes Village.

The unit benefited many competitors. >Read The Full Case Study<
